Divine Mercy Sunday
April 27th

Blessed John XXIII and Blessed John Paul II will be canonized on April 27th, Divine Mercy Sunday.  Both men were living examples of God's immense love for us all and demonstrated a way of humble leadership that can transform the world.  Let us pray that through their intercession as saints, the heavens will open wide and even the most hardened hearts will accept God's gift of Divine Mercy.

Lord, we thank You for the holy examples of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II.  Through their intercession, may we be led ever deeper into the fullness of Your love, so that we can reflect that love to all Your children here on earth, and eventually be united with You and all the saints in heaven.  Amen.

Lent 2014

"May the Holy Spirit, through whom we are "as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything" (2 Cor 6:10), sustain us in our resolutions and increase our concern and responsibility for human destitution, so that we can become merciful and act with mercy.  In expressing this hope, I likewise pray that each individual member of the faithful and every Church community will undertake a fruitful Lenten journey.  I ask all of you to pray for me.  May the Lord bless you and Our Lady keep you safe."  - Pope Francis

Attention Parents - Middle States Update

Sts. Philip and James School was accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 2009.  Accreditation is designed to assist educational institutions enhance their ongoing performance efforts for the benefit of their students.  Sts. Philip and James School is now entering the process of re-accreditation which will take place in the Spring of 2016.  This two-year process will include a thorough examination of many areas including our mission, beliefs, instruction, and curriculum.  As part of this evaluation, we will affirm our strengths and propose action plans for improvement and growth.  We will keep our families advised as we move through this process and will be asking for assistance from parents along the way.  Sts. Philip and James School invites this process and believes accreditation to be important because our students deserve the highest level of educational excellence possible.

First Day of Spring

Dear God,

Spring is a metaphor for change.  Some changes we eagerly await, and some we abhor.  Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited.  To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope, and rebirth.

May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth.  As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too.

Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring.  Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus' name.  Amen.

This year, in addition to our Online Gallery, SSPJ has started a permanent Student Art Gallery , THE MGM GALLERY (Made by God's Masterpieces).  The gallery will contain work from some of our most talented student artists.  Mr. Giordano and Ms. Falco will periodically select work to be permanently displayed in the gallery.  Students of all grades are considered.  Our first piece is a watercolor painting entitled, "Rose" by 6th grader, Julia.  We hope to build a beautiful collection of Masterpieces that will be displayed throughout the years to come.  Please stop by and visit.

To apply for financial aid through the Tomorrow's Hope Foundation, click here to go to Tomorrow's Hope for the online application.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!  Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!  - Psalm 95:1-2

 of the Lord

Acts of the Apostles 10:34a, 37-43
  Colossians 3:1-4
John 20:1-9

So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.  They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.  When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.  Then the other disciple also went in, the one who
had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.  For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.
